I don’t know how many of you read, or remember reading, my Carver Lane project back in 2020.
I was all hot to trot to make a house. For all the wrong reasons! I wont repeat myself here, so any curiosity you may have can be fed here.
The house has been built for 4 years and has been sitting on my shelf, laughing at my stupidity. The intended recipient expressed extreme disinterest while my grand-daughter lit up when she saw it. She had already gone interstate by then. For all the good intention I had little incentive to continue, complete, the project. So it sat there, ignored, and I made excuses every time the young lady asked me when it would be finished.
My recent success with the Xmas ‘Book Nook’ made me look once more upon the house.
This is where it could be heading:-

This is where it’s at:-

Yeah I know. Looks impressive, not!
4 years ago it was finished with a grey undercoat. On Tuesday it came off the shelf and onto my desktop. First step was to prepare the ‘dark’ under shadows. On Tuesday the whole house got a black coating. and it went back to rest. On Wednesday my fridge stopped working. Actually the bottom mounted freezer compartment stopped freezing. So… a whole day trying to decide if I should buy a new one or take a chance and waste time finding a repairman. The fridge warranty expired early 2022. A new one, with 3 yr warranty, will cost me $650, in the ‘Boxing Day Sales’. AND there are three stores, in a row, that I can walk between and get the best price. I don’t have to wait for a tech to visit and I don’t have to wonder about the repair guarantee.
Not urgent, and I still have 2 days to get ‘Sales’ price. Sorta decided to go new.
Today I applied the primary ‘yellowish’ coat, the darker shadow yellow and the grey yellow on the roof tiles. These will get further coats of grey with white ‘dry brushing’ to edge the tiles.
Tomorrow, Friday, I will buy the fridge then plan the next colours to apply.
Lessons learnt so far. This is a set piece for a tabletop game. It is not designed to be an art piece for display, nor a child’s toy. I am having a great deal of trouble identifying places to install lights.
