I am calmer.
By admitting to my shortcomings I have removed the need to be perfect and relieved the pressure. Yesterday, after making my decision, I went to my storage unit and picked up the necessary ‘stuff’. I needed a ‘spray booth’. I picked up a large ‘flat pack’ cardboard, packing case. Once folded it would be large enough to hold the box sides and contain the overspray.
I put it together on my café setting and hit both sides with some black undercoat primer.

This isn’t the completed diorama. I have not connected the two halves, but this is how it will appear when removed from the bookshelf and opened. Pretty good huh? Remember, this is just the black primer.
If you look carefully you can see the sunshine from the window shining through the raw back plates. On the left you can see the orange tint from the filament used to print the staircase section. On the right you can see a small purple block. This the light light shining through the purple wall section.
In addition to the painting, I have plans for finishing the exterior surfaces. During my trip to the storage unit I dropped into the local shopping center and looked for a suitable covering for the walls. I had considered a ‘wood’ finish and found some ‘unicorns’ and other spangled pretties. THEN I FOUND IT!!!!! While foraging through the several boxes of badly sorted rolls of sticky shelf liners and book covers, I stumbled upon a ‘Harry Potter’ theme. All hail to Beatrice. Her light shone brightly upon me that day.
I was actually happy. Shush! Don’t tell anyone.
I have not been able to 3D print a suitable hinge to join the two halves. I could buy a ‘piano hinge’ from my Bunnings but I fear the amount of work needed to cut it to length AND! I have no guaranteed method of securing it to the boxes. Today (Friday) I decided to use ‘cloth tape’. It is similar to hospital bandage. Tightly woven, flexible material, with a sticky side. I have seen it in my mind. IT WILL WORK!! I am confident.

I sprayed these in the early evening then left them outside in the setting sunshine. It may not have been toxic but the air was certainly thick with the heavy chemical smell. I left them outside as long as was daylight. After dark I moved them into the bathroom/laundry with the window cracked a little, hopefully just enough to allow airflow but not insect access. Maybe I wouldn’t choke during the night. Well I am typing this so I obviously didn’t.
